Happy Thanksgiving

Dear Parents,

Not much in the way of news for this short week.  Enjoy your Thanksgiving celebrations!

·         No FF this week.  Some students were without their folders this morning during check-in; however, so please send them back tomorrow so they can be restuffed and ready to roll next week.  IXL can still be accessed if you need your child to do something with his/her extra time this weekend.  Practice any old skills to put a leg up for this upcoming week.

·         Our curriculum this week will focus solely on Thanksgiving.  There shouldn’t be homework items coming home or anything to study. 

·         Multiple students missed a writing deadline this morning for a story we’ve been working on the past two weeks.  They’ve been working on finishing in lieu of participating in today’s Thanksgiving activities, and should finish before school ends today, but if they do not, it will be a homework item to be finished and returned to school tomorrow.

·         Just a friendly reminder that homework is not optional in our grade level.  I realize it is a big jump in understanding for the kids from first grade; however, it is getting too late in the year for so many kids to be making judgments as to whether they feel like completing the tasks or not.  Small and ridiculous as the activities may seem, they pave the way for the kids to have greater success in future grade levels when the homework requirements will increase.  Trust me. J

·         Next week we’ll start a new Social Studies unit called Holidays Around the World.  We will be in need of some parents volunteers to come in and work with the kids on a project.  If you are able to come in to help sew Christmas trees either Dec. 5 or 6 (or both) from 2:00-3:00, please email me to let me know.  Many hands make light work, so no one will be turned away!
