Parents,

Hello to all.  I hope yesterday’s amazing weather has found you with a bit of a “spring” in your step!  We’re headed into a busy season here in second grade.  This will be a heavy testing period as many of our curricular topics are coming to a close at the same time.  We’ll balance that with a nice amount of party, though, so don’t worry…

R  Theme testing for LA theme 4 is this week (yellow review sheets for lessons 16-20). 

R  Spelling test tomorrow.  The kids will come home with a study guide for the skills part of the test over words with silent letters.  Remember the spelling list was provided in the curriculum packet (Sitton Spelling Core list) at the beginning of the year. 

R  Math assessments will be taken both Wednesday and Thursday.  Wednesday the kids will complete triple digit ADDITION problems.  Thursday they’ll tackle SUBTRACTION triple digits.  I break the test into two pieces to help eliminate errors from jumping back and forth between operations.  There is a tests online (topic 18) the kids can use to review, but the estimation pieces are not on the final test, so it’s not as helpful as a review as usual.  Honestly, this would be a great way to complete IXL requirements for the week, as the simple practice of addition regrouping one night and then subtraction the next night is a better review for this particular assessment. 

R  Please remember science containers for our lab next Monday.  Please have your student bring a container to school this week.  Plastic is wonderful, but a canning jar can be used as a substitute if needed. 

R  The kids earned a movie/game party for their big win in the AR competition a few weeks back.  The kids will be allowed to bring a snack and drink from home on Tuesday, March 18 for the party.  Soda is allowed, but must be caffeine free if brought.  Mrs. Thoendel has approved the use of devices from home as part of the game party.  Please remember the school (or Mrs. Panning J) are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.  If your child brings a device, it is at his/her own risk.  Please remind students of this if they choose to bring them to school that day. 

R  Speaking of AR- THEY DID IT AGAIN!  Three quarters with all 23 of our students hitting all 3 of their quarterly goals… only one to go!  Oh goodness!  They might actually pull this off!  I have to admit their excitement is starting to make me believe we might explode poor Mrs. Klaus’ head even though I know better. J

R  1:00 dismissal next Wednesday.  Carline dismissal will begin around 12:55. 

R  Spring break = no school March 20-24.  Have fun!

R  March 26 is our music field trip.  Students are being asked to dress nicely (no sweatpants for example) with badger blue shirts on top.
